About Eco-labels in General

The environmentally friendly product labels or eco-labels are small symbols on products or services which indicate the positive environmental characteristics of these products and services. These eco-labels are awarded as a result of an assessment procedure by national or regional eco-labeling bodies, provided that the given product or service fulfils the strict requirements of the relevant product group.

Eco-labelling makes a positive statement by identifying products and services as less harmful to the environment, than similar products or services used for the same function. Eco-labelling is fundamentally different from the setting of minimum product standards or requirements with the key difference being that eco-labelling is intended to reward environmental leadership.

The following pages provide general information on eco-labels as well as a detailed description of the Hungarian, European and other regional and national eco-labeling systems.
